Making it Count

Happy Spring!  Students are entering the home stretch now and some are beginning to feel the time crunch as assigned work becomes due. I’m constantly asked about word count and how to keep within the paramaters of a specific word count when a student has done over and above the amount of research necessary for a simple essay and wants to show all his or her knowledge in one place:  The Research Paper.  Simple response – don’t expect to pack everything in one box.  The research paper must have a specific focus and this is organized and framed by the thesis statement.  Stay on track and know that the extra research will come in handy at one point, but be strong about editing the work to prove your thesis statement and don’t go off on too many tangents.  Cite your sources- teachers do read the bibliographies, and will value your effort.
